Pacific Heights Residence
We designed two key pieces of this magnificent San Francisco house designed by David Hale: the stairwell and the rear yard deck. The dramatic elliptical stairwell becomes the unifying centerpiece of the house, open through all four floors. It begins on the lowest floor with an inlaid stone mosaic and spirals its way up to a new skylight. We infilled a light-well to create room for the stair and added an elevator next to it. The deck becomes the link between the house and the rear yard and features a steel trellis with integral gas heaters, lighting, a built-in barbecue and up-lit glass pavers. There is also a new counter off the kitchen with folding window that opens full-width. This was not your run-of-the-mill project, with high level of difficulty executed brilliantly thanks to a true team effort by all professionals listed below.
